Editing Product Parameters

Product parameters within the configurator correspond to parameters within your products assembly or part file.

Where to Edit a Product’s Parameters

In Variant, products are managed from within the Asset Manager, under Products. This page is the Product Manager. To edit a product’s parameter’s, navigate to the product page by clicking on the product. Then press the button that says ‘Edit Parameters’.

Driving Parameter Details

Always On: This checkbox dictates if the user will always see the parameter on the configurator menu. If unchecked, display conditions must be specified. Display conditions dictate when the parameter is visible.

Display Name: Specifies the name shown in the configurator menu for the parameter.

Input Type:  Dictates the input style for the user. For a list of pre specified options, use ‘select’. For the ability for the user to input any value, choose ‘text’.

Parameter Name: The actual name of the parameter in Inventor. Case must match the parameter in the Inventor file. When a product is added to the configurator, the display name is set to this by default.

Note (optional): Will display below the name of the parameter in the configurator menu. Can be used to give additional information about the parameter.

Type: The

Unit: Should match the unit of the parameter in Inventor. For a text input parameter, will be shown as a note to the user entering a value.

Value Conditions: Conditions the entered value will be validated against.

Values: For parameters of input type select, the values the user can select from must be detailed here. The display name is what will be shown in Variant, whereas the value is what will be sent to Inventor for the value of the parameter. This is useful for creating a more customer friendly selection process compared to what exists in the Inventor files.

Reference Parameter Details

Display Name: Specifies the name shown in the configurator menu for the parameter.

Visible: Reference parameters may be useful to the customer in making selections, or they may be used for calculating valid values for other parameters and don’t need to be seen. If the visible checkbox is untoggled, it won’t appear in the menu of the configurator.

Note Parameter Details

Display Name: Specifies the name shown in the configurator menu for the note.

Note: Will display below the name of the note in the configurator menu. Can be used to give additional information about the model.

  • Reset Parameters

During editing, one may wish to revert parameters to their original versions. Use the Reset Parameters button to accomplish this. This only works until the parameters are saved.

Add Parameter

When adding a new product, key user parameters are extracted to create the default driving parameters. If other driving parameters, reference parameters, or notes are needed, the add parameter button can be used. Select the parameter type. This cannot be changed once the parameter is created.

Reorder Parameters

The order of the parameters in the menu of the configurator reflects the list of parameters on the product page or when editing parameters. To reorder the parameters, click the reorder parameters button, drag the parameters to change their order, then click the button again to finalize the order.

Save Parameters

After any changes to the parameters are made, including details, order, or new parameters, the changes must be saved. Navigating away from the page without saving means the changes will not be stored.

Conditions

Conditions are used to provide logic to the form display. Read the following guide for more information:
